The Fancy Shawl Dance is said to imitate that of a butterfly. The Outfit is
normally beaded,
though Appliqué Ribbonwork is appropriate. A flared skirt is worn,
which may be connected to a tank top or a separate blouse, with a beaded Yoke or
Vest.
Fancy Shawl Dancers normally wear fully beaded Leggings and Moccasins.
Most dancers wear matching beaded Earrings, a Back Barrette for Plumes, Hair Ties, a Choker with a
Neckdrop, and a Hairpiece/Headband. A beaded Belt may also be worn to enhance the waist and keep the skirt in place. The main article in this clothing
is the Shawl. It should span the lady’s arms from finger tip to finger tip,
and is usually intricately decorated with Appliqué Ribbonwork.
